SADAKO PEACE DAY

Each year, the Foundation holds an event to remember the story of Sadako Sasaki and pay tribute to the victims of the 1945 atomic bombings of Hiroshima (August 6) and Nagasaki (August 9). We reflect on the past to inform and build a future free of nuclear weapons. The event takes place each year on August 6 or August 9 at the Sadako Peace Garden on the grounds of La Casa De Maria Retreat Center in Montecito, California.

Sadako Peace Garden

In 1995, the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and La Casa de Maria Retreat Center collaborated to create the Sadako Peace Garden on the retreat center’s grounds in Montecito, California. It serves as a peaceful area for reflection on the story of Sadako Sasaki and the continued existence of nuclear weapons in the world.
